Straight out of Los Angeles, CA LA Velvet is back with their brand new album titled “The One I Love”! The album is a thunderous mix of indie rock and electronic influences that mix together real well and whose main goal quite simply is to enthrall and rapture the listening audience with its infectious melodies.
The album starts off strong with “You Make My Heart Stop Beating” a bombastic, energetic tune that introduces the listening audience to the vocal stylings of Laura V. Bustillos. Her passionate vocals meld together beautifully with the electronic infused guitar riffs that permeate the whole song. “Down and Dirty” delivers as advertised with an aggressive hard rock rhythm delivered through intense guitar riffs, and Laura’ s determined vocal prowess setting the song high and above all the rest on the album. The disc’s title track is a mid-tempo, laid back rocker that switches gears unexpectedly from the songs we heard previously to songs that are more toned down in nature, providing a better insight into the type of musical diversity that they’re capable of putting right on display to the listener.
My favorite track off the disc is the raw and thunderous “Set Me Free”. A no holds barred yet melodic track that mixes together a host of different genres to provide an energetic rocker that is a glimpse into the band. It shows off the highest potential that they’re able to reach as a band. The disc’s final track “Boy Toy”, is an electro infused jam that ventures into Lady Gaga- esque territory with an array of aural effects that is a far cry form the stuff we heard prior to this, and shows that they’re capable of taking elements from other genres and inserting a melodic component within them to make the songs sizzle and pop.
All in all, a terrific album put forth from LA Velvet that shows off the diversity and depth of talent in the group and what they’re truly capable of accomplishing on this record.
