Fans of the band, Animal Collective, will be happy to know that a new album is on the way. The album will be titled “Centipede Hz,” and is scheduled for a September 4th release date, through Domino Records. This will be the band’s first album since their 2009 record, “Merriweather Post Pavilion.” The track listing was released by the label yesterday (May 14). Speaking to BBC Radio 1, Brian Weitz (Geologist) said the band went “back to their roots,” in that the songs on “Centipede Hz” weren’t as sample heavy. “‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ was a very sample-heavy record, we made it piece by piece in the studio, we constructed it. This one we wrote as a rock band in a room and we wanted to record it that way.” The band also released a two song single to precede the album, set to release next month. “Honeycomb” and “Gotham” will be the titles, and will not be available on “Centipede.” The two singles are already available on Youtube, and can be found here:

Honeycomb

Jay-Z is getting set to headline the Made in America festival, a new music festival based in Philadelphia. The rapper announced the festival on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art alongside mayor Michael Nutter. The festival will be held in Fairmount Park on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2. Nearly 30 acts are expected to join the festival, but only Jay-Z has been confirmed so far. Jay-Z says he plans to invite President Barack Obama to perform. Talking to Rolling Stone magazine, the rapper says, “He’ll be so far into helping the world that he probably won’t have time, but I’m absolutely going to ask him. I’m gonna try to get him to … do a little rendition of Al Green.” Tickets will go on sale May 23r, and start at $99. Some of the proceeds will go to help the United Way. Stay tuned for more details.

Next year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will take place again during two separate weekends. The official website for the festival announced on Monday that event will return on April 12-14 and April 19-21. Advance tickets will go out this Thursday, May 17th, and general passes will go on sale in 2013. Coachella producer and founder, Paul Tollett told Billboard that the decision that demand was so high last year, that their options were to either “sell more tickets on one weekend or have two weekends, and [the latter] is the option we went with.” As soon more information becomes available, we’ll pass that along to you.

He also has a distinct midwest hip hop reminiscent of Lupe Fiasco and KiD CuDi (which are two of favorite current artists). Lyrically, he doesn’t stick with one style. He drops a lot of quick references of various subjects (For instance, in Lucky Man he references: Groupon, Jeremy Lin, Max Payne, Ron Artest, Al Capone, and Halle Berry in Swordfish) that don’t tell any sort of story, and just seem to be there because they rhyme. His songs are dominated by hooks, but a few of his songs have a singy-song pop style. But, It’s not all that annoying. Overall, I would definitely recommend him to people looking for new music.

Favorite songs include: High Again, Ain’t Gotta Work, and Lucky Man.

Craig Morrison has arrived on the scene with his brand new, self-titled release. He has crafted some catchy tunes, and displays that in an upbeat, positive atmosphere. I don’t listen to country that often, but he has a great enough voice to leave you wanting more.
The disc opens up with “Just Another Sundown,” a melodic, bombastic tune that features Craig’s easy-going vocals adding a great deal of energy and enthusiasm that kicks the disc off in high gear. ‘Fences” takes a more stripped down approach, and instead relies on acoustic guitar rhythms to get the musical message across, and in a clear and concise manner that resonates well with the listener. “Wasted on Me” picks the energy back up again with an upbeat rocker that haves Craig’s voice echo throughout the song with remarkable ease and gives you a chance to look back and appreciate his talents. “Somebody’s Girl” is an emotional, heartfelt ballad that presents Craig in a different light, and it shows that he is more than capable of handling a wide range of songs that adds to his diversity as a country singer.

The disc’s second half begins with my favorite track off the disc, “Reminisce” a perfect balance of country rhythms and mid-tempo, melodic rock that entices the listener from the moment you hit ‘Play’, a remarkable and well rounded tune. “Doin’ Country” does a great job of executing a straightforward musical pattern that doesn’t feel the need to do anything too fancy and sticks to its guns and does what it knows best. We get ready to close out the album with “Stay Up Late,” a mid-tempo rocker that gets ready to close out the disc on a clear and concise tune. It’s a great song to get your feet wet in country music if you’re not too familiar with the genre. “Hot Kinda Love” rounds out the album on a strong note with a high energy, danceable track that melds together all the sounds we heard previously on this album and gives us a brief synopsis of everything featured on the album in one fell swoop. Regardless if you like country music or not, you’ll definitely grow to appreciate this album over time and what it offers to you as a music listener.

Overall, a well executed effort from Craig Morrison, who has created a pure, no filler country album that has great potential to draw in listeners from other genres and show them that country isn’t as corny as it cracked up to be. A job well done!

Album Score: B

Track Listing:

1. Just Another Sundown
2. Heart Broke Dawn
3. Fences
4. Where I’m At
5. Wasted on Me
6. Somebody’s Girl
7. Reminisce
8. I Love You More
9. Doin’ Country
10. Stay Up Late
